And finally event has taken place. We started on time at 2 pm. At the begging Monica made a little introduction. Firstly, his part said Vic Davies, Senior Lecture of Faculty of Enterprise & Innovation. He was talking about societal marketing. He as well highlighted subjects such as how to do charities advertisment in times of economic downturn.
Next speaker was Margaret Cox Chief Executive of the National Eczema Society. She was speaking about an issue her Charity dealing with. Margaret highlighted also how serious is illness called eczema. There are only 7 people from her organization and 6 million people in UK suffering from Eczema. She as well said about relation between charity organization and pharmaceutical company such as Stiefel laboratories. Eczema is an allergic condition that affects the skin. The natural human desire to scratch or rub an itchy rash just makes the condition worse, and treatments can be slow and are not always completely effective. Charity and Pharmacy need to work together to improve all methods fighting with illness such as eczema.

Next speaker was Pascal Waucquez, managing director of Stiefel Laboratories. He was talking about profile of company. Stiefel is a pharmaceutical firm doing specific dermatological medicine. There are one of the biggest dealing with issues pharmaceutical companies in the world. However, this company is very likely to work with small specific charities such as National Eczema Society. After this part, conclusion belonged to Vic Davies. He marked how important for all of us are events like this. about societal marketing and eczema.

At the end ruffle has taken place. We did it to raise founds for NES. There were prizes such as £20 voucher from Pizza Hut. Ruffle has not being the only one way to support NES. There is a special link "Make a donation" on right side on our Blog. You can still donate NES!

Hopefully students who have been on this event are more aware of subjects highlighted during the speeches. Also we would like to say thank you to everyone who gave us a hand during the preparation for this event.

Corporation and Charities: a case of successful partnership.

We are a group of 4 Marketing and PR first year students and this first year brought us a challenge – A Charity project that consist of raising funds for a Charity. To fulfil this task we decided to invite a company Stiefel Laboratories (one of the biggest Pharmaceutical companies specialised in dermatology) as well as a Charity N.E.S.- National Eczema Society to participate as speakers in a small event at Bucks New University.

During this event the subject Societal Marketing will be discussed with the collaboration of Vic Davies (Senior Lecturer) from Bucks New University.

As part of our course this event has the purpose to allow everyone to know more about Eczema disease and to receive knowledge about Societal Marketing in a relax way.

The purpose of this event is to have all students and Staff attending an event where they will receive some extra knowledge and support a Charity that works for a cause that affects over 5 million people in UK.

How it's going to be...

‘Hold a hand for eczema’

“My daughter’s nails are always full of blood. How on earth is she going to cope at school?”

Four-year-old Arissa Ghani developed eczema at just nine weeks. Showing signs of allergy and asthma during a family holiday in Wales, Arissa soon developed an angry, hot and raised rash on her cheeks which rapidly spread across the rest of her body.

“I just thought, “Oh my god – not eczema”, says her mother, 34-year-old Anjum Ghani of Little Horton in Bradford. “I’d seen other children with eczema in the past and always felt so sorry when I saw them scratching at their skin. And now here I was, with no history of it in the family and with my newborn daughter covered in itchy, weeping skin. I wondered how she, and I, were going to cope.”

Now on a range of mild to moderate topical steroid creams for different parts of her body, combined with essential medical moisturisers (emollients) for use directly on her skin and in the bath, Arissa is starting full time school in September. It’s an anxious time for the family.

“Not only is Arissa’s eczema very bad but she also suffers with asthma, a nut and an egg allergy so we’re constantly on edge never knowing if her skin or her allergies will impact on where we are and what we’re doing,” Anjum explains.

“Starting school in September is a worry. She’s done really well going part time at the school nursery but full time school is so different. Her sleep is still very disrupted because of her itching and scratching and I always have to wake her up in the morning – and she won’t be able to catch up on sleep in the afternoon when she’s full time.

“However understanding the teachers are, it’s no replacement for the care and attention I can give her at home.”

Anjum is welcoming the updated Schools Pack from the National Eczema Society which aims to relieve the worry and stress of a child with eczema starting school by providing information, guidance and lesson tips for teachers.

“The Schools Pack is perfect for a family like ours. It’s something I know I can take to Arissa’s teacher which has everything in it she needs to know. And I love the fact that it includes lesson ideas so her teacher can bring the subject of eczema into lesson time so Arissa’s classmates understand more about eczema.

“The last thing I want is for Arissa to feel different. She copes so well but it breaks my heart to see her nails full of blood as she tears at her skin. It’s like she’s in a trace when she scratches and there’s nothing anyone can do to stop her.

“I really don’t know if it will ever get better,” she adds. “Some days it doesn’t feel like it. That’s why I’m so glad the National Eczema Society is offering this support at such a crucial time as starting school. We really do need all the help we can get to make this important transition for our lovely daughter as smooth, as complete and as painless as possible.”

Hi All!

We have been preparing this event for a long time.
First was the whole idea then is an issue how to realise that?
Because of support from University and 2 other orgnisations((Stiefel and NES) we could not have gone so far with preparing this event. We are pleased that so far we did not find barriers from any side. Our the biggest success so far it that we still belive we're doing the right thing. We don't only want to get good mark from assigment but first of all we want make this event useful for quite few people.
One more we would like to ask for help not only for us but for those who REALLY need help and support, please come on our event at 2nd of February 2.00 pm at Main Lecture Theatre (Chalfont Campus) BUCKS New University

Buckinghamshire New University (formerly Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College) is a university in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, England. The Institution was a university college between 1999 and 2007, when it announced that its application for university status had been accepted, after having failed in its previous two attempts.

The Institution changed its name from "Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College" to its current name of "Buckinghamshire New University" ("Bucks") when its application for university status was approved in 2007 by the Privi Council. Proposed names such as "University of Wycombe", "University of High Wycombe", "High Wycombe University", "University of Buckinghamshire" and "Buckingham Chilterns University" were rejected. The chosen name was swiftly attacked by the University of Buckingham for daring to use the county name.Whether the "New University" moniker will be sustainable or relevant several years into the future is also a subject of debate.

Bucks had ambitious plans to consolidate its divided campuses into a purpose-built site near to Hughenden Park in High Wycombe on land previously owned by CompAir. While these plans fell through, the university changed plans to renovate and enlarge the main campus as well as consolidate both the Wellesbourne and Chalfont campuses onto the High Wycombe site. Additionally two new halls of residence will be built at the Hughenden Park site.

The University has started a major development of the High Wycombe campus with a large structure being built onto the front of the existing building, the building itself is based on a study of its contexts and the irregular urban gain of the town centre.

Formed in 1975, The National Eczema Society has two principal aims: first, to provide people with independent and practical advice about treating and managing eczema; secondly, to raise awareness of the needs of those with eczema with healthcare professionals, teachers and the government.

The National Eczema Society’s research policy is to fund PhD studentships to support existing research programmes. The Society has an independent scientific committee which manages the PhD studentship selection process and ensures that proposals for research are effectively peer reviewed and monitored. The results of the PhD research projects are disseminated as widely as possible to ensure that the whole scientific community is informed of any findings. More than 250 doctors, nurses and pharmacists attend the National Eczema Society’s professional training days, which they hold around the country each year. The workshops include demonstrations on wet wraps, bandaging and emollient application, plus presentations from dermatology specialists and the chance to talk with eczema patients, to hear first hand the difficulties of living with eczema.

Their support of healthcare professionals in the community with training days and information has helped to ensure that at least 130,000 patients had access to the latest advice in treatment and care. The 2008/9 Study Programme began on September 18, 2008 in Edinburgh followed by November 20, in Manchester. Other study days are planned for Belfast, Middlesbrough, Bradford and Maidstone in 2009.
